We list over a dozen of the best electric guitars for all different skill-levels, budgets and playing styles.
We also list all of the different body types and the best electric guitars for each. This guide is the most in-depth electric guitar buyer’s guide online today.
Solid Body
This is the most popular body style of electric guitar. The Solid Body Electric Guitar is made from solid wood and lacks any resonating airspaces in the design.
The original solid body was designed and created by none-other than the father of electric guitars, Les Paul. The innovator, musician and inventor brought us this beautiful frame design and music was never the same.
Semi-Hollow Body
Semi-hollow body guitars (like the Gibson ES-335 series) are another popular model of guitar body. These guitars have two sections of the instrument that is hollowed out using F-holes and other sound holes which promote airflow through the body of the guitar.
These are a favorite guitar for many musicians and electric guitar players just starting out as well.
Hollow Body
Just as the name suggests, the hollow body guitar has more cut-outs than the other guitars listed above.
Typically these electric guitars have F-holes similar to their semi-hollow counterparts, but they don’t have the center blog.
A hollowbody electric guitar will usually have a more acoustic sound to it than other versions of electric guitar and for many, they sound “unelectrified” in their tone.
Usually these guitars are reserved for jazz players, thanks to their warm and round sound, but they are also used in some heavy rock as well.
